Sadness
What exactly is sadness?
In simple terms, sadness is when you feel down. When you feel like you don't want to do anything, or when you're too demotivated to even try to improve. I mean sure that's a mix of emotions, but sadness is a big part of it.
Sadness is not just crying or hiding in the corner of your room. A person going to work everyday and living normally can very well be sad but not express it at all. And that's because the level of tolerance of emotions is unique for everyone, there is no absolute answer to anything related to emotions.
What does sadness do to us?
Throughout multiple researches globally, prevalent sadness in people has shown to reduce their quality of life, quality of relationships, poor emotional regulation, poor diet, and thus lower life expectancy. Not only that, it clouds our mind so that it becomes harder for us to make decisions; which in-turn reduces the opportunities we get in our lives.
How can we control it?
As i mentioned in happiness, and in my book, sadness is something that we will have to learn to live with. A little bit of sadness is necessary, to make sure we are humans and have empathy. The problem, however, is when sadness takes over our mind and makes us do things that we don't want to.
To make sure it never fully takes over our mind, we have to consistently polish and put our skills into practice. We have to consciously make efforts into our thoughts, habits, lifestyle, and relationships, only then will we be able to become proficient in emotional regulation.

Without sadness, we would have no empathy. But with too much of it, we will have no happiness. -me
